Opening and closing ceremonies

Opening ceremony

The Organising Committee is delighted and proud that Her Majesty the Queen will once again open the Nordic Congress of Gerontology, as she did twenty years ago in Stockholm. Her ongoing commitment to issues related to an ageing population serves as inspiration for both the research community and society as a whole.

The opening ceremony also features a performance by Dance for Parkinson and Balettakademien, ending with welcoming remarks from the presidents of NGF and 27NKG.

Dance for Parkinson’s

Dance for Parkinson’s is a dance program designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. It emphasizes the act of dancing itself rather than serving as therapy or treatment. The focus is on the creative, enjoyable, and collective experience of dancing, which serves as a healing process. Dance for PD® has shown evidence of benefits in areas such as endurance, motor impairment, and balance. At Balettakademien in Stockholm, dance classes specifically tailored for individuals with Parkinson’s have been offered for the past eight years. Witness the collaboration between these individuals and children/students from Balettakademien as they perform together during the opening ceremony of the 27NKG.
